Before we begin our exploration of glass workability, let's take a journey into the history of glass to learn how it originated. Volcanoes form due to extreme pressure below the earth's surface and normally close to plate boundaries. When dense plates sub-duct under smaller plates, the upward force and extreme temperature create a melting effect that creates magma. The magma will harden over time and start to form layer after layer creating a stepping stone towards the formation of a volcano.
Obsidian, the original glass creation was produced from the natural occurrence of lava coming in contact with water from lakes and oceans. When the cooling rate of water is faster than the rate molecules can organize than an amorphous solid is formed without any time for crystallization. Due to this occurrence, Obsidian's use in ancient time crafted projectile points and in modern day resulted in scalpel blades.
Glass blowing was invented by the Phoenicians in 50 B.C. somewhere around the Syro-Palestinian coast. Some say this is the time and place that romance and sin also got there start...
The greatest thing about glass blowing is that the creations are sometimes exceptional, but always one of a kind.
